colour chart?
i found this chart....
http://www.adocars.com/elf-ado/elf/elfcolor.htm
so did one MK1 paint scheme have a grey body and a slightly different color grey roof??? thats what mine has (but had been repainted, poorly). i am going to drop it off today to get redone...i thought the roof's were the "OEW" white...but this chart saying otherwise.
help!!!

Re: colour chart?
There was doutone grey colour option for mkI Elfves. The body was Yukon Grey (Gr7) and the roof Birch Grey (Gr3).
Wolseleys had the opposit also (lightg grey body, dark grey roof.

Re: colour chart?
Right, don't assume that all the cars had OEW roofs! Mine had been painted OEW before I got it, and it just looked wrong with the Damask Red body. It's now back to the proper Whitehall Beige.

Deffiniatly.
And that a real treasure - get a good paintshop, and get the colours mixed using the original paint. That will be spot-on original if done properly.
Using todays color charts often misleading.

the cans are dry, but this place is pro, maybe they can scrape out some dry paint and match it properly.
by the way, for the record, a grey car and a grey roof of a slightly lighter color is a moronic colorway. i am going to keep it since i want this MK1 original....but what were they thinking?

Re: colour chart?
That two-tone grey was used on the Mk II Elf, as well. With a red interior it really suited the car and is my favorite factory combination.

Re: colour chart?
As they had cardinal red upholstery, this made the look lighter, and more elegant. In my opinion.

Elegant. Exactly the word I was looking for. And Elegant suits an Elf. I was going to write regal, but that didn't sound quite right.

i love the grey, just prefer the white top, red top, or something more contrasting.

Re: colour chart?
thanks...going with yukon grey/oew. not correct factory, but i want the white roof, and the interior still has original yukon paint....the paint place is actually going to "reactivate" the touch up paint i had and match the yukon color, pretty cool.

Re: colour chart?
My 1969 Mk3 is about to be painted after and massively expensive body shell overhaul (virtually every panel is new) I now need to make sure that I get the paint right. With regards to Jason's post above, see below. Are we 100% that Mk3s had a snowberry white roof? Most of the official info I have stops at Mk2, when it was OEW.

Re: colour chart?
Do you have a Heritage Certificate for it? That would tell you for sure what it came with.

Re: colour chart?
Thanks Red, that backs up Jason's post. I have the official BMC body parts catalogue for a mk1/2, but not a mk3, hence the confusion. I have never bought a certificate, partly because I suspect it will just muddy my thoughts about colour further; the guy I bought the car off told me on collection day that he'd just had the colour changed on the documents from brown to grey. I've always liked the grey he came in, but knowing that he was born a different colour would bug me.
