Hi Admin,
the bits go back together in the reverse order but a lot slower than they came apart.
Later, Paul

Poject will resume shortly, inherited an MG metro so I might graft the unit in as a nice quick old car, she is never to be a concourse car but it will be another Hornet on the road.
How do you folks feel about that Paul

Re: My Hornet, comlete with rust !!
seems a reasonable notion - best part of the old mg metro was generally the engine!

and the brakes but I think that would mean going to 12" wheels but really want to keep the 10"

Spit roast the Hornet
just an update.
I am at the moment constructing a spit to mount the body shell on, it will utilize the roto-dip holes front and rear for mounting. She will with a bit of luck be mounted on it in a week or two, the stands are made and I have a suitable scaffold pipe for mounting the brackets to. I now have to make the mounting brackets, this is the hard bit but varius pieces of metal will be picked up tomorrow, grinding, welding, bending and hammering will now ensue.
A photy of the stands

On the subject of a spit. A friend of mine has lent me his spit made up from some tower type scaffolding sections cut and welded together. The only problem I find is that is a little too high but beggars can't be choosers

Hi TONYELF,
Seems to be a mini van on the spit. If its a little high I have a couple of suggestions, (1) grow a bit, (2) make a platform to stand on.
Joking apart, I need a way of turning her to an easy welding position, the only way is to try, thats what I'm having a go at and it's a bit late to grow . The other cars I am interested and run are Austin A30/A35's, which have similar roto-dip holes, my dream is to mount a mini/metro front subframe in an A35 with a 1275cc engine and gearbox and of course leaves you open to any modern independent rear suspension.

Re: My Hornet, comlete with rust !!
Well spotted and you are correct. it is a mini van on the spit with a 1275 and 8.5 discs and running gear waiting to go on/in.
I'm 5'7" and 65 next week so got no time to grow any more .
The lad is taller so I'm showing him how to weld for me! The spit is ace for turning the van to the required height but have to prop it in position to stop it turning turtle No welding upside down for us! got to be a bonus

Back on the job today, hoping to make the brackets (which will include holes for pins to stop the turn turtle aspect) and with a fair breeze and a little luck get her mounted. More updates to come

Moved along a bit further today but not quite as much as I would have liked.
The spit is more or less complete and now have put the pole through the Roro-dip holes ready to make up the brackets.
The spit.

Brackets? Like mine? a floorboard and g cramps!
And this. hard to see but it is a piece of plywood in place of the speedo using the bolts and holes that hold the speedo! I like to live dangerously! been like this for nearly 12 months. Hell don't tell the Health and safety!

Re: My Hornet, comlete with rust !!
Thanks for the pictures Tony, I was a little unsure if the speedo fixings would be strong enough but obviously they are!
Mine is a little more elaborate I know but I intend to carry on with the queue of cars that seems to be building up (A35 FWD, A35 Van) after the Hornets done.

Re: My Hornet, comlete with rust !!
Remember my shell is completly stripped of everything so yes you will need to make some more elaborate fixing plates. And good luck, (so far you have saved over £100 on your spit!)

Sand/shot blasting
If she does go for shot blasting I will probably go the whole hog and have the complete car done when the structural work is finished, and get the priming done as well. If you go this route it is bound to show up more repairs that need to be done, a good thing I think.
