Master Cylinders Empty Master Cylinders

I have noticed brake fluid seeping on the top of my metal master clyinder around the base of the neck of the "Dome tower" where it sits on the round reservoir. There is no noticable loss of fluid but as you know brake fluid is hydroscopic ie it absorbs water. There is little chance that a repair can be made and I don't want to compromise safety so a new cylinder is needed.

The clutch master cylinder is a plastic reservoir and I am in a quandary whether to go for a metal M/C or a plastic M/C to "match the clutch M/C. (which was on the car when I got it.)

I know I want to keep the Elf original which would mean changing the clutch unit as well. The difference is almost double the cost for the metal type but that is not the problem.

I thought it easier and safer, to keep an eye on fluid levels in the plastic type.

What do you folks think?.

i fully agree - the plastic one is far cheaper and makes it easier to check the fluid level. i have a plastic master cylinder on JVG and will also fit one to Rusty (whenever i get that far!). only serious concours and originality lovers really shell out the extra cash for the metal ones in my opinion.
