Hydrolastic removal

I am at the stage in my restoration where I need the subframes out. I wanted to know how to disconnect the wet suspension so I dont inadvertantly destroy anything. Any help would be much appreciated. Because then I can crane the engine out and drop the sub frames and crack on with body work.

You need to depressurise the hydro system first. The two connectors are in the middle of the rear subframe, they look like tyre valves. You need a screw connector to fit to them - agricultural suppliers should be able to supply a fitting which is used to pump water into tractor tyres. Drain off the fluid and dispose of it (it's essentially water & alcohol with a rust inhibitor).

Once depressurised you can disconnect the pipes which go to the displacers.

You'll need a hydrolastic pump when you reassemble it, but as is being discussed on another thread here, you need to evacuate all the air first.

I have a hydrolastic pump so that's not an issue, do I have to take the displaces out? Or will they come out with it?

Your hydro pump should help you depressurise it then.

The displacers can stay on the subframe (in fact removing the front ones is quite a job), just disconnect the pipework.
