Flywheel removal
Ok. I'm confused. I know I've got to get the crank shaft at the right angle so the C clip doesn't drop and lock everything up. The trouble is I don't know which way that is.
According to Haynes the timing marks should be at 3 o'clock.
According to both my 1960's BMC manuals pistons 1 and 4 should be at the top, but this means the timing marks are too.
Which way is it?

Re: Flywheel removal
Hi Rob.
The haynes says 3 o clock in the manual as the C clip will be horizontal, so will only be able to move sideways, and not drop! a safe method, mainly as if a previous mechanic has not put it on the correct factory way of at TDC! its interesting the amount of mechanics that dont know about this potential problem! hope that helps!.

Cheers Nick.
I went for TDC and got away with it. What you said does make a lot of sense though.
