Re: South African Mk3
I've tried them in both positions (up & down) and even pointing to the rear but the best seems to be 'down' ???

Re: South African Mk3
I've always preferred the "Pod" type speakers that just sit on top of the shelf so no cutting holes.
An added advantage of the "Pod" type is that the speakers are angled towards the front of the car and less volume is needed to hear the music !

Definitely no cutting into the shelf! My only worry out here is theft and heat if they're on the shelf.

No, I also have two deck speakers, but they really take up a lot of room on the parcel shelf. I've considered doing without them.
I think you can just about see them in this picture.
They are like these:

Re: South African Mk3
I fitted an "Under the back seat" speaker board like that one in a Mini for a friend a while ago.
They were the only 2 speakers in the car and a lot of the sound coming from them was being "absorbed" by the padded rears material of the front seats This meant the radio's volume control was constantly on "high". (even for a "Mini" !!!)
All was OK however untill the first time the kids went in the back seats on a journey and promptly kicked both speakers in with the back of their shoes !!!
She now has rear "Pod" type speakers on the rear parcel shelf. and the radio volume has come down to a more 'normal' level.

The mats are in really good condition as well
I think this type of heater unit was the only one available here in SA. Could be wrong, but I've never seen the early ones fitted to our cars. I just hope it works

Re: South African Mk3
I have that type of heater on my Cooper and it works very well.
Had to replace the heater matrix some years back as it developed a leak but thats been the only issue.
Those mats look to be in really good condition - I think you should send them to me for 'safe keeping' Jared !!!

Re: South African Mk3
They look nice on the car and better than the 'Minilites' for me.
Could you split the wheels and get just the Gold part powder coated perhaps ? ....... maybe in White or the same Blue as the car ?

Re: South African Mk3
I quite like both wheels, but there's just something about saying you have Force wheels that makes a difference
The centres can come out, yes. I'm undecided on colour. Maybe a light silver?
