I was bored and it's raining, so I fitted the master cylinder extension :

That looks like quite a complicated modification. Perhaps you should post a detailed tutorial on the steps involved. Smile

Pretty simple really Smile cap off, seal on, extension on, cap back on top.

Another box :

South African Mk3 - Page 7 IMG_20141211_153638_zpsbba651b0

The main reason for placing the order, Cibie H180 lamps :

South African Mk3 - Page 7 IMG_20141211_155100_edit_zpse3e6b5e2

There were a few other things like some gaskets and various seals.

I also decided to fit up the master cylinders, with new gaskets etc :

South African Mk3 - Page 7 IMG_20141211_150103_zps4073b0c5

She's still a bit dusty and dirty, but you get the idea. Also took a couple with the mirrors on :

South African Mk3 - Page 7 IMG_20141211_152959_zpsd5e3924b

So glad I decided on these. They really provide the look I'm going for.

I fitted the headlight bowls today and decided to see what the lights would look like :

South African Mk3 - Page 7 IMG_20141213_180814_zpsa38b7c08

I also put the yellow covers on :

South African Mk3 - Page 7 IMG_20141213_181946_zpse080ffd5

I like both looks, but prefer the yellow, it breaks the colour scheme.

I put the new pedal rubbers on, but still need to clean them up properly and get around to doing up the steering column :

South African Mk3 - Page 7 IMG_20141214_131114_zps656c7f17

I also did a bit more on the headlining. It certainly is starting to lose the creases :

South African Mk3 - Page 7 IMG_20141214_132043_zps3e33215e

I'm liking this view more and more :

South African Mk3 - Page 7 IMG_20141214_132152_zpsa34c5fde

And just to have some fun, I put on the rims that came off my brother's car :

South African Mk3 - Page 7 IMG_20141214_125118_zps307d7ecc

Just, NO!!!

I fitted the headlights for good today. Wiring sorted out (bit of a mess on the passenger side), Night Breakers put in and park lights moved from the indicator unit up to the headlight. Just need to get the correct orange globes and finish up the wiring for them and then those get fitted as well. Once that's done, I shall put a picture up.

If you want to do a bit of custom wiring, this is a simple way to make the side lights function as turn signals. I did this on my Elf with the later-style sidelights I put in above the wheel arches.

Thanks for that Smile It'll certainly come in handy.

Made a start on the steering column today. Wet sanded with 2000 and then cut and polished. I don't want it to be perfect. I like that it has some scratches and chips on it - gives it that patina feel I suppose.

Clean on the left, dirty on the right :

I didn't sand the steering wheel, I just cut and polished it. Came up really well, but the thought of getting it dirty now bothers me haha...

Not the best picture, but the flash shows how clean it is now :

Not sure I've ever seen a white steering wheel. Perhaps a nice leather lace-on grip would keep it protected.

I haven't a clue how they did it either. The paint isn't lifting or anything. If anything, there's a couple cracks in the paint. I've been considering a grip of some kind - if I can find one.

I used one of the old style lace-on types on my stock wheel. It served me well until I upgraded to a leather Mountney wheel.

That does look good. It's a real battle to find that out here though. The last one we bought just tore up. I suppose if I look hard enough I can find someone.

Nowhere in town was I able to find a set of staggered fit amber globes for the indicators up front. They finally arrived this week and so I got them fitted up. Looks really neat I think :

Looks so so nice. Great color and the chrome just pops! Will be such a smart car. I wouldn't wrap the wheel bc I like the feel of the thin rim, part of the vintage car experience.

Thanks Mark Smile I enjoy the dark colour and the chrome, they go well together. I've been thinking that with the wheel as well, it feels nice in hand as it is.

This is how I mounted the mirrors to the body, with a grommet :

I haven't exactly done all that much lately, but I decided to pull my finger out today and do something. When I started working, it was well over 30 degrees C outside. During that time I went over the pedalbox again and made sure everything was right and fitted the steering column bracket. I then started modifying the underdash tray and finished with this :

South African Mk3 - Page 7 IMG_20150110_151356_zpse28b4567

It promptly started pouring down after this, so I can't do much more at the moment. I still haven't glued the headlining in - have to wait for assistance with this part . . . Oh well.

I managed to contort my poor arm into getting the dash tray to fit. This is the finished look :

South African Mk3 - Page 7 IMG_20150111_161253_zpsf9c48c1d

You can't quite see it in that picture, but the heater pipe fits very tightly up against the tray and in the cut-out.

I also did something different to the norm and fitted the washer bottle here :

South African Mk3 - Page 7 IMG_20150111_151712_zps3c1be1bb

With the bottle out of the bracket, I'm able to get a compressor in for the spring, so I should be ok. All to try and save as much space as possible.

I also made a start with glueing the rooflining in. The sections by the front windscreen and passenger door are glued in so far.

Where will you run the fresh air duct for the heater? Won't you need to remove the windshield washer fluid bottle or will you run it through the wing?

I'm not going to be using a fresh air pipe. The only time the heater will be used is when there are some cold mornings in winter. I don't think I'll need a pipe for that.

The rooflining is about 80% glued in. I don't think it looks too be bad at the moment, for someone who has never done something like this before :

South African Mk3 - Page 7 IMG_20150113_171507_zpsf5fa2769

I cut the front piece out roughly (it was getting dark). This will be neatened up later on.

Well, at long last the rooflining is done! :

South African Mk3 - Page 7 IMG_20150116_094346_zps4557f156

I fitted the interior light as well, along with the door rubbers, window rubbers and quarter windows. Both windscreens are in, but the locking strip will be put in tomorrow. I'm happy to say that there are almost no creases as well.

Both door scuff plates are now in as well :

And she now looks more like a car :

Just a shot of the two cars together :

My brother pointed something out to me today. The profile of my door handle is different to those used on the other internal hinge doors :
