Re: South African Mk3
That looks like quite a complicated modification. Perhaps you should post a detailed tutorial on the steps involved.

Pretty simple really cap off, seal on, extension on, cap back on top.
Another box :
The main reason for placing the order, Cibie H180 lamps :
There were a few other things like some gaskets and various seals.
I also decided to fit up the master cylinders, with new gaskets etc :
She's still a bit dusty and dirty, but you get the idea. Also took a couple with the mirrors on :
So glad I decided on these. They really provide the look I'm going for.

Re: South African Mk3
I put the new pedal rubbers on, but still need to clean them up properly and get around to doing up the steering column :
I also did a bit more on the headlining. It certainly is starting to lose the creases :
I'm liking this view more and more :
And just to have some fun, I put on the rims that came off my brother's car :
Just, NO!!!

Re: South African Mk3
I fitted the headlights for good today. Wiring sorted out (bit of a mess on the passenger side), Night Breakers put in and park lights moved from the indicator unit up to the headlight. Just need to get the correct orange globes and finish up the wiring for them and then those get fitted as well. Once that's done, I shall put a picture up.

Re: South African Mk3
If you want to do a bit of custom wiring, this is a simple way to make the side lights function as turn signals. I did this on my Elf with the later-style sidelights I put in above the wheel arches.

Not sure I've ever seen a white steering wheel. Perhaps a nice leather lace-on grip would keep it protected.

I haven't a clue how they did it either. The paint isn't lifting or anything. If anything, there's a couple cracks in the paint. I've been considering a grip of some kind - if I can find one.

That does look good. It's a real battle to find that out here though. The last one we bought just tore up. I suppose if I look hard enough I can find someone.
Nowhere in town was I able to find a set of staggered fit amber globes for the indicators up front. They finally arrived this week and so I got them fitted up. Looks really neat I think :

Looks so so nice. Great color and the chrome just pops! Will be such a smart car. I wouldn't wrap the wheel bc I like the feel of the thin rim, part of the vintage car experience.

Re: South African Mk3
I haven't exactly done all that much lately, but I decided to pull my finger out today and do something. When I started working, it was well over 30 degrees C outside. During that time I went over the pedalbox again and made sure everything was right and fitted the steering column bracket. I then started modifying the underdash tray and finished with this :
It promptly started pouring down after this, so I can't do much more at the moment. I still haven't glued the headlining in - have to wait for assistance with this part . . . Oh well.

Re: South African Mk3
I managed to contort my poor arm into getting the dash tray to fit. This is the finished look :
You can't quite see it in that picture, but the heater pipe fits very tightly up against the tray and in the cut-out.
I also did something different to the norm and fitted the washer bottle here :
With the bottle out of the bracket, I'm able to get a compressor in for the spring, so I should be ok. All to try and save as much space as possible.
I also made a start with glueing the rooflining in. The sections by the front windscreen and passenger door are glued in so far.

Re: South African Mk3
Where will you run the fresh air duct for the heater? Won't you need to remove the windshield washer fluid bottle or will you run it through the wing?

I'm not going to be using a fresh air pipe. The only time the heater will be used is when there are some cold mornings in winter. I don't think I'll need a pipe for that.

Re: South African Mk3
Well, at long last the rooflining is done! :
I fitted the interior light as well, along with the door rubbers, window rubbers and quarter windows. Both windscreens are in, but the locking strip will be put in tomorrow. I'm happy to say that there are almost no creases as well.
Both door scuff plates are now in as well :
