Fitted the arches today with a rubber strip for protection and looks :

South African Mk3 - Page 6 IMG_20141108_165711_zps374dca46

Here's a close up of the fit :

South African Mk3 - Page 6 IMG_20141108_165731_zpsb1b4e470

I think it looks like it was made to fit this, but that's just me.

I fitted all four, but the darkness and a thunderstorm was coming in, so I'll have to take pictures tomorrow. I might just keep the white roof.

I took the car out this morning while there is some bright sunshine. This is what the front looks like :

South African Mk3 - Page 6 IMG_20141109_091406_zps4d165785

And the fitment by the front bumper :

South African Mk3 - Page 6 IMG_20141109_091346_zpsd43c5f66

It took me ages to get the slot in the arch just right for the bumper to slide into. Also, the front arches weren't designed to go down so far, they're supposed to sit above the bumper, but then again, even that wouldn't work as I'd have to modify them to fit as well (the Elf/Hornet bumper sits a lot higher). Also, I much prefer the look of them fitted like this, it looks neater and it'll also make the car look lower than it actually is.

Lastly, a full side view. You can see how blue she really is (absolutely filthy though - makes me sad) :

Finally got my dash :

South African Mk3 - Page 6 IMG_20141110_125329_zpsda734954

Had it made up here by a local guy using aluminium. They're both the bigger versions and not the usual one big and one flat panel. As you can see there is still some work to be done, but I'll do that all myself to save money and have it exactly as I want it. Need to decide if I want to polish them up or paint them. Decisions . . .

A slightly better picture of the dash :

Still have to cut out and things before actual fitment. Managed to get the front plates to fit better as well.

Decided to do something different and came up with this :

South African Mk3 - Page 6 IMG_20141114_133755_zpsbf2fa6c0

It matches the doors now. I won't be doing anymore - subtlety is key here. There's a couple small bubbles and lines, but it'll be covered by the seat, so it's ok. I still need to do the passenger side as well.

Also fitted up the front spoiler to see how it'll look :

South African Mk3 - Page 6 IMG_20141114_135018_zpsff973790

And a view from the other side now :

South African Mk3 - Page 6 IMG_20141114_135044_zps0554878d

And a better look at the slot in the front arch (she's filthy, please excuse that) :

Well, I fitted up the rear Hi-Los today and also put the shoes and cylinders in the wheels. I just need to get the clevis pin for the handbrake and give the drums a bit of paint.

South African Mk3 - Page 6 IMG_20141115_132642_zpsb731d355

Then fitted up the wheels too (the Hi-Los are set quite low at the moment) :

And I just can't get enough of this end of the car :

I got this from the rusty 1275E we have - it sits underneath the dash (seeing as I want have dash space). I want to see if I can get it to fit with my proposed heater setup. It has a few glue stains (thanks Leyland SA) and needs a bit of bringing back to life in terms of colour, but it's not broken or cracked.

Had a little bit of free time this afternoon, so I finally fitted up the calipers, front pipes and hoses :

South African Mk3 - Page 6 IMG_20141118_165303_zps93e2c162

I don't think the silver looks too bad.

Then got her on her proper shoes :

South African Mk3 - Page 6 IMG_20141118_173640_zps6c2ea788

South African Mk3 - Page 6 IMG_20141118_173613_zpsec334423

She still looks a bit like a gasser at the moment, but an engine will help with that. The front might be slightly over-arched, but I don't mind.

Went to clean up a few things on the car today and decided to take some pictures. I was initially worried about the silver calipers behind the silver wheels, but it's not too bad. It's actually kind of subtle :

South African Mk3 - Page 6 IMG_20141119_155112_zps40bfa521

South African Mk3 - Page 6 IMG_20141119_155254_zps4c83e477

Ever so slightly over-arched :

South African Mk3 - Page 6 IMG_20141119_155527_zps39aace91

My second favourite view of the car :

South African Mk3 - Page 6 IMG_20141119_155147_zpsa8c79ead

And yes, I was sort of going for a silhouette shot there (not the best though).

Also, just a picture of the sound deadening on the roof to replace the original stuff :

South African Mk3 - Page 6 IMG_20141119_175959_zps914b4538

It's lightweight and should to the job just fine I think.

I was going to replace the original door switches with later Rover spec items as somehow my car landed up with only one, but I managed to find another one on one of our other cars. I cleaned them up this morning :

So exams are finally done and I decided I'd waste some time today. I made a start with the dashboard - I'm going with carpet to improve sound deadening. Since this section will all be behind the dash pieces I had made up, this won't be seen too much, but it still needs to be done properly. I haven't finished it by any means, but it gives you an idea :

I did a little more of the dash area this afternoon :

South African Mk3 - Page 6 IMG_20141125_164312_zps8891b55d

And with the gauge pod in :

South African Mk3 - Page 6 IMG_20141125_165014_zps58ad890d

I'll be the first to admit that it currently looks terrible, but it shall be neatened up a bit as I go along. This will be behind the metal dash, as said before, but it still has to be neat.

Did a bit more carpetting this morning. It didn't turn out too bad I think, just one small wrinkle on the passenger side, but that'll be covered by the under dash tray.

I'm trying to use the glorious sunshine to full effect today. I made up two pieces to close off and neaten the gap between the dash and door pillar. Like so :

South African Mk3 - Page 6 IMG_20141201_121013_zpsbacaef55

It's like this on both sides. It doesn't look too neat, but with the correct grommet in place and the door rubber, it should help neaten it up a bit.

With the last bit of glue I stuck on the piece that goes under the door :

South African Mk3 - Page 6 IMG_20141201_121036_zpse34a4b11

I just have to wait for everything to dry and then I'll cut off the excess pieces. I've made up the piece that goes on the firewall, but just need to get some glue and I'll be able to stick it on. Once this is done I'll finally get to fit the pedal box and master cylinders to hopefully bleed the brakes.

I finally got around to doing the worst part today - the firewall. It came out quite nicely I think, no wrinkles or anything of the sort.

South African Mk3 - Page 6 IMG_20141202_161226_zpsb046f0dd

Considering all of this has been done by hand and having no patterns to work from, I think it's come out quite nicely. I also finished off the crossmember with the sticker and then section underneath the door on the passenger side. Almost done with the carpeting now. There's still a couple places to fix up here and there, but all in all, I think it's nice.

I fitted the pedal box and accelerator pedal in yesterday afternoon :

Just see that I need to do a couple little touch-ups. I also have new pedal covers on the way, so these will be taken off.

On the exhaust tunnel :
