Repro steel wheels?

I am thinking of going from the 3.5 inch steel to the 4.5 repro Cooper steel wheel and keeping the standard hub caps. I have read that there were some cheap repros that wouldn't take the standard hub caps? Any experience out there ? I am not going to be fitting flared arches so anything wider is out.

Ive only done this with Hornet caps and not Elf. However, I can confirm that they do not fit, without modification - the little raised sections dont come out far enough - I had to weld on to the wheels and then grind out a better groove to get standard trims to fit the repro wheels. Its a bit of a fiddle but works ok.

Oh! You will also need to widen the slot that the valve comes from as it will be crushed by the trim!
