Hi all from Robert and Lexy
Hello all,
Following the recent and sudden demise of my Rover Cooper courtesy of a newbie who'd forgotten which side of the road to drive on in heavy snow fall, a friend of mine told me of an Elf for sale across town.
I have now bought Lexy and driven her home.
She's a 1967 registered Mk II. Apart from a badly done paint job and somewhat tired looking interior she is pretty much as mint as you could expect.

Wow, that was a quick reply. Do you live on here?
All in all I think I got lucky with her. I saw an Elf on eBay and a Hornet at the Bingley Hall Mini show the same weekend at the same price and mine looks to be the best of the three. I nearly bought an Elf shell for a tenth of the price from a friend a week before, but that was a serious project.
Lexy failed her MOT and broke down on the way back last week the day before I was due to see her. The failure was for a brake cylinder, and a drive shaft gater, and the brake down was water in the distributer cap. Doesn't really register on my radar when looking at a 1967 car.

Re: Hi all from Robert and Lexy
As requested by CamelotR, the engine bay.
I think your right CJ. I belive they switched from building MkII to MkIII in late 1966. As a friend of mine from WCM said 'When you have a choice of buying a MkII or MkIII at the dealer's showroom, the MkIII looks like the better option with internal hinges and wind up windows.'

Re: Hi all from Robert and Lexy
Thanks.
From this poit of view it is clear that Your car has once got some "facelift" from a later mini. The wiring loom and the electricity is from a later mini. Just as the windscreen viper motor and the radiator surround or the fan.
Mysteriously the oil filter lamp is wired up though! You can see the connection of the switch on the oil filter housing . You can try if it is working or just a connection that leads nowhere, if You switch on the ignition, take off the connector from the oil fillter case, ground it and then check if it light up anything or not (the green light maybe ?...)
Thats strange as afaik later wiring looms were not fitte with this gadget...
But I may be wrong...

Welcome to the forum Im a resent convert myself from the Italian kind to this beautiful little British gem, Mine was delivered this Saturday past you can take a look on the projetcs section, yours looks very tidy. Have you given her the extensive look underneath and around? what would you do to get her to your standards? although from here she doesn't seem to need any work.

Re: Hi all from Robert and Lexy
I didn't know what seats they are, but they are very comfy. How do you make the back adjust? As you can just make out in the picture the driver's seat is a tilted a bit far back for me.
The shell is in excellent condition although some of the welds need tidying up. The paint work is chipped and peeling, so I need to get that sorted before too much metal is exposed. I planning to upgrade the engine to something more powerfull, though still A-series. But I'm planning to restore the interior to somewhere near original, although I may keep these seats or my knightsbridges from my MPi as I don't have the originals.

Re: Hi all from Robert and Lexy
There weren't but I have bought them now. The seats work fine, but they don't fit the right way round has the handles hit the door pockets.
Next seat question: How do you get the head rests off? The passenger seat head rest just pulls out, but the driver seat doesn't. It goes up and down but there is some thing stopping it coming right out.

Re: Hi all from Robert and Lexy
No button at base of the headrest post to squeeze? (check if there is a groove on one of the posts on the one you have taken out)
Have you got the seats the right way round? (and I don't mean facing the rear of the car! )

Re: Hi all from Robert and Lexy
I have the left seat on the right, and right on the left. I did try swapping them but the doors won't close, or I'll knock a half inch deep dent in the door pocket to do it.
The head rest I got out has a little spring clip at the bottom of the stalk, but there is no grove or button to access it while it's in the seat.

Re: Hi all from Robert and Lexy
Sounds like a good yank needed to get the headrest out with maybe a little wd 40 on the stem before pushing it back
in?
It seems a shame to have to reshape the door pocket Re siting the seats just a little closer to centre would be ideal.

Re: Hi all from Robert and Lexy
I think I'll just leave the seats in on the wrong sides. They fit and don't cause any problems this way, and it saves having to modify the doors. It's just that the adjuster handles are on the other side.

Re: Hi all from Robert and Lexy
Talking of odd seats, I have a pair of Cobra Bucket recliners in mine c/w headrests. a bit "springy" but very comfy. Its a b*gger to get in (& out of) the back seat tho - good job I'm past "courting" age (really?????)
Cheers

Re: Hi all from Robert and Lexy
I've put the passenger front seat on the front hole in the bracket to make it easier to get into the back that side. I've moved the driver front seat to the back hole in the bracket to make it more comfortable for me to drive. That was my standard setup in both my minis too. The problem I have is that my drive is so narrow that we have to load and unload the car through the driver's door and, as you say, it's real tight trying to get into the back. I'm hoping that taking the headrests off will allow the seats to tip further to provide access. The alternative is to put the seats from my MPi in, but I don't think they'll fit the right way round either.
