Re: New Shopping List
I do actually have a pair of these in decent condition that I paid £35 for, however when came to take them for chrome I found the threaded lugs inside were broken or stripped![/quote]
never done it myself but i think you can glue the studs back in using a very strong glue like araldite

Bonnet Spear
I'm still trying to find a good bonnet spear with both mounting lugs. Anyone?

The first thing to go are those lugs with the Elf spear being so narrow. I have on that is possibly servicable but it also needs rechroming,

Re: New Shopping List
That's what I've heard, but it's a real PIA trying to join the RMC from the US. They only take certified checks in Pounds Sterling, and only through the mail, plus there's an extra charge for non-UK registrations. And the ironic part of that is that I won't be able to use most of the benefits of being a member since I'm not in the UK. And I've never been able to get a response from anyone when emailing them, so I'm not too keen on going through all the hassle of ordering a foreign bank draft and mailing it and hoping it gets to the right folks. PLUS, I can't even get anyone at the RMC to tell me whether or not the spears are still available until AFTER I've been accepted as a member. So it would cost me £37 ($50 US) to join on the off chance that I might be able to get the part, then another £50 ($69) which you could effectively double to get it posted over to me. SO in the end, I'm figuring $190 to get the bonnet spear, IF they have any still available. I guess you can see I've got it all figured out, and the deal doesn't seem to be in my favor.Big_Al_Smith wrote:some time ago the riley motor club remade a batch and sold 'em at £50 each. probably all gone now though but you could check out their website: http://www.rileymotorclub.org/

Elf Bonnet Spear
Hi
Not quite ready for bed yet and saw your request for an Elf Bonnet spear. As the Elf Technical Specialist for the Riley Motor Club, when I last checked, they still had a few spears in stock. I can confirm this later today. I have one on my Elf and the finish and profile is as good as the original. The RMC has an active membership in America so I'm sure I can help you out on that score if you are interested in joining.

Ah, you must be the "T.B.A." next to Elf on the Technical Advice page. I'm not opposed to becoming an RMC member, but the joining process seems to me to be biased against non-UK applicants. Since I won't be able to make use of the benefits such as RAC discounts, Regional meetings, etc., I don't quite understand the additional cost. I assume it is to cover postage for the Riley Record, which I feel would have limited value to me personally. (Plus I'm one of those tree-hugger types who doesn't like printed paper. I'd prefer to opt out of the mailing list and have access to an electronic version if possible.)
But if you can help me to at least know whether I can get Elf spares, the bonnet spear in particular, (which quite honestly would be my main motivation for joining) I'll go ahead and slog through the process.
