New Shopping List
Hello All,
This is my latest shopping list:
Set of four cooper 4.5" non-revserse, steel wheels
Boot lock (dont mind about the condition as I have other parts going to the chromers anyway)
Mk 3 Hornet cold air vents
I need lots of other things, but most is stuff I can buy new - this other stuff is tricky!
If anyone needs it I do have a couple of spare bumpers and bonnets, all need restoration, but all are too good to throw away!

Don't throw the bumpers or the bonnet away they are irreplaceable (put them on ebay)DyNoRod wrote:Hello All,

Re: New Shopping List
The boot lock is the same as on a MGB/BGT. You should be able to order from Moss or any MG parts supplier. You don't have a spare boot lid you'd send to the US for postage costs?

I think S wheels are now available new again - try minisport's web site
air vent - which bit?

Parts
No plans to throw the spares, I know how hard they are to come by - I bought about 5 sets on ebay before I finall got a set of bumpers and a bonnet I was happy with.
I have actually found the wheels at Mini spares and bought a set for £34 each, the wheel trims dont fit, but I think with a little bit of grinding and weld I can get them to stick.
Sorry to say I dont have a boot lid... but I have seen them on ebay in the past few weeks.
Finally... ait vents.... fingers crossed..... I need the actualy vent, the whole thing, i.e. plastic parts that are rivited to the metal disk with four mounting holes and the tube at the other side for attaching to the part - all one piece. - If you dont have them, do you know if these were used on any other cars?
Also - door locks..... I knackered one lock up when I dissasembled them for the chromer. I didnt think anything of it, as I guessed a new lock set would be safer anyway.... but mini spares tell me they are different... any thoughts peeps?

Re: New Shopping List
i can do you a nearside door lock - but it won't have a key - and i don't have any offside ones.
not sure if the key code is actually marked on the lock anywhere? sure someone'll know.....

Lock
I did manage to order one of those boot locks from moss - item number is AHH6179 if anyone is interested.
I had a mini door handle that I dissasembled, and yes the lock barrels are shorter on Hornets! I didn't look at the lock barrel on the hornet but I know the Mini lock had a code in the very end.. I would be interested in yours, how much you looking for Al?
Does anyone know if the barrels were used on any other cars?

Re: New Shopping List
just cover the postage and it's yours - i can't get into the garage before next week because of work, but i'll sort out the best spare and get it packed up and weighed and let you know the postage cost.
Great
Brilliant thanks Al - just let me know what I owe you.
I did get the boot lock from Moss, and I have to say that whilst they do fit, they are different... the hook you use to open the boot comes down further, I am not sure how this will effect it (as bumpers etc not on yet), but I may get the old one re chromed anyway just in case.
I cannot believe that the lock tumblers used on the Elf/ Hornet are not also used on another car.. any ideas anyone? I would prefer new barrels just for a little security.

another quick thought - a locksmith might be able to rearrange the tumblers to give a matching set?

Locks
Hi Al,
Just a note to thank you for the door handles! They arrived safe and sound last week.
Now I just need a lock specialist who can make all the locks match one key!
Cheers

my pleasure - just waited for the xmas post rush to die down!
i think you can buy new lock barrels and just replace those - 1 key for the whole car? where's the fun in that? much better to have 4 different keys and try each one in turn when you want to open the door/boot/start the thing!
Keys
Lol! Thats what I want to avoid - so far I would have 4 keys! I just hope a lock specialist can change the barrels.

Locks and Stuff
Just to let you know I found a company who can change the tumblers in lock barrels to make all the keys match
http://www.johnrichard.co.uk/
Does anyone have a pair of chome front things they want to sell (the bits around the grills)? I dont mind if the chrome isnt great providing the threaded lungs inside are ok.

i think elfgirl has a spare pair in a box of bits that came with her car? drop her a pm
Re: New Shopping List
I think I've got three pairs in various condition. They'd need a bit of a sort out and clean off first, so I can get a decent look at them.
Are you in a rush? It might be best to take them to one of the shows and you could have a look at them all. Especially as I never have time to get ot the post office!
I should be at Brooklands and will be doing L 2 B.

Erm, yes I think so - not the actual indicator but the chrome part it fits in, and the grill that seperates from it. I do have a decent bonnet if you want to exchange... Its from an Elf with the grill still attached.
Im in Oxford..
I hope to have the car finished in time for the L2B, body work is coming along, slow and steady but ok.
I do actually have a pair of these in decent condition that I paid £35 for, however when came to take them for chrome I found the threaded lugs inside were broken or stripped!
