Yep Need to get some new needles (GY I think) and maybe some new jets, then they should be good to go.

Re: South African Mk3
Those Spots will look great.
Dont go changing anything on the Carbs just yet. I would get the car running with them as they are just to prove that it at least runs then think about 'tuning' with richer needles or worn jets later on.
Do you know what needles are fitted already ? There is a very good website where you can compare different needle profiles for SU's
www.mintylamb.co.uk Originally set up as a site for owners of Triumphs but the info on there apply's to all SU setups.

The spots are cool
With regards to the carbs, I have no idea about the needles. Quite a few guys recommended starting off with the GY needles and tuning around those. The guy who sold them to me suggested the jets being replaced. I might even purchase a complete rebuild kit to be on the safe side.

Morning Jared
Does it fit as well when its closed tho ??? Haha. I think a rebuild kit for the Carbs is a good idea but I would try them when the car is running first just to see, After all, as the old saying goes, "If its not broken, dont fix it !!!"

Been a little while and no progress. Haven't touched her at all, but I did place a MiniSpares order with the exchange rate taking a dip. Still need to get a clutch and sort out the carbs, then I can get somewhere with the motor. Also have an upgrade in store for the differential - waiting on this still.

Re: South African Mk3
Decided on the hooter I'll be using for the car :
Also, I took the flywheel and clutch off today to do the oil seal sometime. I've never done this before, so was a bit unsure. Turned out to be a 10min job with no hassles - something will definitely go wrong later on then. The clutch is still in great condition (excuse the dirt and leaves; August winds don't help) :

Re: South African Mk3
Looking good Jared.
I always find that when refurbing the engine, a good de-greasing and then fresh paint on block and head and ancilliary brackets makes the rebuild much more enjoyable as it really looks like a "new" engine coming together. and a little metal polishing along the way is good as well !

Thanks man
Believe me - a good clean and paint will be in order. Going for a green colour. I just hope it's the right colour

Re: South African Mk3
Never fitted one of those Jared but I've heard lots of good things about them once they are set up correctly.
