I made some brackets up for the fibreglass bonnet so I can hopefully get the bonnet hinges to fit decently. Someone did me a favour and fitted them to the bonnet too :

Also, I'm thinking of using these spots - some cool Hella items that my dad used on one of his cars :

Those Spots will look great.  Cool

Dont go changing anything on the Carbs just yet.  I would get the car running with them as they are just to prove that it at least runs then think about 'tuning' with richer needles or worn jets later on.
Do you know what needles are fitted already ?  There is a very good website where you can compare different needle profiles for SU's
www.mintylamb.co.uk   Originally set up as a site for owners of Triumphs but the info on there apply's to all SU setups.

With regards to the carbs, I have no idea about the needles. Quite a few guys recommended starting off with the GY needles and tuning around those. The guy who sold them to me suggested the jets being replaced. I might even purchase a complete rebuild kit to be on the safe side.

Morning Jared Very Happy

Does it fit as well when its closed tho ??? Haha. I think a rebuild kit for the Carbs is a good idea but I would try them when the car is running first just to see, After all, as the old saying goes, "If its not broken, dont fix it !!!" affraid Basketball lol!

Been a little while and no progress. Haven't touched her at all, but I did place a MiniSpares order with the exchange rate taking a dip. Still need to get a clutch and sort out the carbs, then I can get somewhere with the motor. Also have an upgrade in store for the differential - waiting on this still.

At last, a very small bit of progress. I fitted the grille bar to the bonnet today with 5 small brackets. Still some work to do and see about the brackets touching on the body.

Looks decent :

I fitted the other MC expansion tube (also just really enjoy seeing the faces in the engine bay) :

Test fitted the bonnet straps - just need to do some work on getting them to be tight :

Decided on the hooter I'll be using for the car :

South African Mk3 - Page 18 IMG_20160808_173944_zpspdtaxm8i

Also, I took the flywheel and clutch off today to do the oil seal sometime. I've never done this before, so was a bit unsure. Turned out to be a 10min job with no hassles - something will definitely go wrong later on then. The clutch is still in great condition (excuse the dirt and leaves; August winds don't help) :

Nothing important, but I did manage to finally get the rocker seals to fit. The holes needed to be opened up a bit.

South African Mk3 - Page 18 IMG_20160820_151416_zpsaioavfia

I also got the locknuts machined down to fit the Force wheels.

South African Mk3 - Page 18 IMG_20160820_152513_zpsoa1weh3x

Lastly, I added a couple stickers, thanks to Malcolm.

Cool
Looking good Jared.
I always find that when refurbing the engine, a good de-greasing and then fresh paint on block and head and ancilliary brackets makes the rebuild much more enjoyable as it really looks like a "new" engine coming together. and a little metal polishing along the way is good as well ! Shocked Wink bounce affraid

Thanks man Smile

Believe me - a good clean and paint will be in order. Going for a green colour. I just hope it's the right colour afro

Bought some yellow perspex and started making this :

South African Mk3 - Page 18 IMG_20160904_132442_zpsdgnxkgr3

Definitely needs some work to get it looking nice and working nicely, but the idea is there.

Hmmm...

Stripped the motor of its ancillaries and gave it another good clean in preparation for paint :

Need to replace the seals and some gaskets at some point as well.
