Re: GIZMO My 67 Hornet
I made my rear valance. Two standard Mini valances @£8 each, tinsnips, a welder, and a little ingenuity. It's not perfect, but you have to look hard to tell!

You're very brave to take on such a daunting task, but pushing forward like a true hero!
I'm preparing to start the task of mating a dodgy Elf rear end to an equally dodgy Mini front panel and wings to create an Elf trailer.
I'm looking at the progress of your project for inspiration. Chin up!

Re: GIZMO My 67 Hornet
Excellent - keep up the good work, the dark dingy tunnel of restoration is getting lighter

PS Hope it fitted OK

Re: GIZMO My 67 Hornet
Been there, done that, got the t-shirt:
Several hours of welding in new metal and grinding smooth. No rust there any more though, even 6 years later!

Re: GIZMO My 67 Hornet
nice work sir! rusty's half done at the back - will get to the other half eventually!
Re: GIZMO My 67 Hornet
asahartz you had some lip to work with on the left
I have`nt got no lip at all. Good work though did you make it or brought some lips of the mini and cut and shut them in

Re: GIZMO My 67 Hornet
There was some lip, but by the time I'd cut away the rust there wasn't a lot left.
I can't remember exactly how I did it now, but I suspect I fabricated my own - I sure as hell didn't buy any (I'm tight!) Even the valance is two Mini valances cut & joined, as you can probably tell from the pics.

Re: GIZMO My 67 Hornet
The rear seats look, from that picture, to be reasonably easy to do. Get the hide food and restoration fluid from Woolies Trim. Worked a treat on mine.
(The daughter in the red overall is now at university but the seats are still fine!)
I have to say though, you are a very brave man! I've done some rusty cars, but even I would have thought twice about that one!

Re: GIZMO My 67 Hornet
Looking good. Believe it or not, the little car will be like a tank when finished. My Elf when lifted on one corner.it often lifts on another corner at the same time!
A word of warning. if you use seam sealer and want to weld nearby after, do ensure the sealer has cured. ie there is no fumes coming off, otherwise you may get a flashback like I did.

Re: GIZMO My 67 Hornet
Good idea to smooth the seam sealer with thinners after applying it direct, not thought of that!
