Replacing the sills, how big a job for body shop?
I'm planning to have my car painted in the future. Someone put oversills (is that what they're called)? over the original sills. I'm wondering how big a job it would be for a body shop to do--the body shop that will be painting my car. The body shop works on all types of cars, primarily US cars and I doubt if they've replaces any panels on a Mini. However, they painted my other Mini and did a real good job(no body work though aside form heavy sanding and smoothing)
The floors were patched but appear solid as does the rest of the car. I'm pretty sure there's some bondo in there somewhere but the car was painted several years ago and the paint is holding up well with no peeling or bubbles.
Also, where would be a good place to get some sills. I'm in the US but don't mind ordering from the UK if needed.
Thank you, Steve

Steve,
You should be able to get replacement sills from any of these suppliers:
Mini Mania
7 Enterprises
GB Cars
These guys are Mini specialists and could very likely put them on for you. (And do it the right way, as opposed to a shop that isn't familiar with Minis)
Heritage Garage
This is a Mini club in LA that would put you in contact with other owners who could give you more advice and help you out.
MOALA
Good luck!

Replacing a sill is a work as hard as 4 on a 10-scale. Not that complicated. Though care must be taken to the details, and when the old sill is cut, structural integrity gets quite on the weak side. Door gaps can suffer if not doing carefuly. If an oversill was welded on top of the original, the floor also maybe damaged.

Hi
You might also want to consider whether (or not) you want the original style of Jacking Points installed - the originals were probably covered over by the oversills. The jacking point (sockets ?) are available from Heritage Panels:
http://www.bmh-ltd.com/p63u.asp
But you will need to ensure that their supporting structure is also refurbished (cross members).
I'd go with Red Riley's suggestion and get someone who knows what they are doing and are mini familiar to accomplish the task....and to quote Camelot R "Door gaps can suffer if not doing carefuly"...oh so true..ask my buddy!!!!!
Cheers

Thank you for the replies. Just the info I was looking for. Will have it done by Mini-knowledgeable shop.
I'll start with Heritage Garage which is about an hour's drive from me.
Thanks again, Steve
PS Is there a spell check on this message board?

Two ways to spellcheck on forums:
1) Use Mozilla Firefox for your web browser and enable "Check my spelling as I type" under Tools/Options/Advanced.
2) If using Microsoft IE, install iespell from http://www.iespell.com/index.htm
Well, the third method is to learn to type correctly.
