Little Red Booster Returns
I have been working on my race Riley Elf "The Little Red Booster" ( Google in Images to see it) for a little while now.
I will soon be starting to show some pictures etc as the car progresses.
It will be a 1.3 Turbo motor with a bit of a twist, not road legal this time, you will see why soon.
Full Space frame chassis, flat floor, very low stance (70mm ground clearance) and a very high power to weight ratio.
I now have a lot of the parts together so things should progress a bit quicker from now on ( Fingers crossed)
Speak soon
Phil

Good news Phil !
Do you still want to borrow my "Mutants" rear bumper cos the car is 'off the road' right now while i wait for some better weather to get it through its MOT.

Hi
Yes I will do but not started Fibre Glassing yet, that will be when the welding is finished and the weather is a bit better..
I will get everything ready so it will only take a weekend to make the mould.

Re: Little Red Booster Returns
I have been held up waiting for the rear hubs to be machined, they are with the 3rd company now, but I had a test one brought over last week and they look great so the others will me machined ASAP.
Chassis is more of less done, the front suspension is all mocked up and working and so is the steering, so getting there, once I get the hubs back I can make the rear suspension arms and then I can put the car on its wheels so I can start the bodywork, all the arches have to be redone as the car sits a lot lower this time.
While i am doing the body I hope to have the engine rebuilt so its ready to install when the chassis is finished and painted... plenty yo keep me busy.

Re: Little Red Booster Returns
Its now on its wheels and the Body has been placed over the Chassis ready to be fixed then I can make a start on the body as a lot of the panels have to be adjusted due to the lower ride height.
The is an article about the Elf on the Mini Spares Web Site please have a look at the link below. More to come soon .

Re: Little Red Booster Returns
Its now looking like a car again, most of the moulds and panels have been built, once its close to running i will start to release pics of the build.
I have decided to have the motor rebuilt my a specialist as he has been building these kind of engines for years with amazing results. Power you would never believe possible from a 1.3 engine.
It also looks as if it will be Ferrari Red again.
And as i thought it will be low....very very low front spilter is 60mm off the ground, chassis is 70mm and the top of the roof is 1.1M( 43-1/4")...
Im just sorting out all the undertrays and deffusers at the moment then I can refit the engine to double check everything before it gets rebuilt.
Then its paint and final build...
Still a lot to do but a small bit of light at the end of the very long tunnel.

Re: Little Red Booster Returns
I almost swapped my engine/power last week,,,for electric power.
I was speaking to two companies, one for the Engine and controls the other for the Batteries ...and both bases not to far away.
The motor was the smaller unit from a Tesla and is very compact and powerful and I would have only needed 6 batteries because we don't race very long....it would have had close to 300bhp and had massive potential with the electronic controls, launch control, variable throttle, traction control etc,,,,I could even programmed it for different hills etc ....the weight was not a big problem and could have all been placed very very low in the car and we could have had perfect balance as well... charging would have been easy with either a 13a socket or a generator if needed.
So why did I not go for it ?
The cost it would have come to around £18,000...(I think they still have a long way to go to convince people )....the batteries were nearly £4000 alone...
Shame as it would have been a very very interesting development and a good advert for electric power and the companies involved....
Back to the old combustion engine....with Turbo
