Re: Hello again all...
I am indeed. I just thought I'd seize the opportunity of the new forum to pick an identity that didn't include my initials - cybersafety and all that!!
Here's a clue - I'm on my third Damask Red Elf
Princess Leia's floor - or what was left of it!!
She was still shinny up top - you were right Discoman and elfred - I should never have done it.
Hmmm, just tried to resize the image but it still chpos off the side - any hints gratefully accepted.

Just worked out that if I go for the "large" in photobucket - which is the webhosting that I use 640 x480 for anyone who uses a different site - it seems to work perfectly!

Hello Elfgirl ( new identity I see, love Avatar)
Has Alastair made it onto here yet?
Very cute to see Leia and Katy together. What have you decided to do with Leia?

Hi Melfandbertie!
Thanks. The avatar is courtesy of Discoman - looks like me don't you think .
Leia has moved on to a new home - she's gone to a colleague with a garage who hopes to be able to get her back on the road at some point, don't think it will be soon!
I don't know if Al's had a chnace to get in here yet, what with horribly work shifts this week! But I'm sure we'll see him very soon.
Gonna pick Katy up from her waxoyling this morning - just as well I didn't leave it any longer with the way the weather's turned.

Re: Hello again all...
Hi Elfgirl
I have'nt been on here for a few days. I see there has been loads going on that I have missed mind.
We went to the Winter Warmer that is advertised in the mini world magazine last weekend and it was such a laugh. We did fancy dress and I have to say that Mark makes the most realistic vicar- I did a few double takes I can tell you . He took his role very seriously mind and decided to bless everyone he could - even if they didn't want to be blessed ( abit too much cider me thinks !! )
We also took the cars down to St Ives and parked them up on the jetty. It was abit hairy as the tide was most definately coming in. We almost needed a snorkle
Glad Leila found someone to fix her up

Re: Hello again all...
'twas a bumper swapping day while the sun shone,
through the holes in leia's bum,
the new one seems much more sound,
so glad she could be found,
much more fun without the rust,
owning a riley is a must!
it's poor but...................

I'm so with you on that one melfandbertie... don't give up the day job hun!!
Especially as whilst kt might be sound in the floor department - mechanically she's got me tearing my hair out, and have booked her back into the garage tomorrow.
She really struggled to start yesterday morning, got going eventually but was driving at no more that 10-15 miles an hour, with no acceleration (bear in mind she's an auto). I pulled over to let someone pass and she died on me!! As is was safe and legal to leave her there (and she didn't want to start again and I was now in danger of runnning late for work) I decided to abandon her!!
Managed to get her going later and back home - but I'm clearly not very happy (again) and took the train to work today- so no, I am not "full of riley lust", I'm full of thinking I should have taken some of the advice I was given by so many people and bought a "sensible" car, rather than paying over the odds for one I had no decision over aaaargh!!
yours sincerely,

Just remember the smiles when it does go right - far outwieghs the frustrations. Are there any other symptoms apart from loss of power - what has the weather been like when things have gone wrong ? A general loss of power with nothing else attached has a few pointers - restricted fuel/air supply or loss of compression for some reason - dead easy one to try if fitted with a fuel filter, bypass it to try or fit a new one - the plaggy ones can block up dead easy and it is not always noticeable.
We might as well try to help and save a garage bill if it is something daft

Thanks Gordon. At least the garage also saved me the bill by not investigating further yet. It was especially cold on Monday, when I had the real problem with her....
Fine again tonight driving her home - whatever it is, it is intermittent!

Re: Hello again all...
if it was cold and maybe a bit damp, you could be suffering from the carb icing up - this is a real swine to spot as by the time you have lifted the bonnet it has melted. Basically it feels like the carb decides to stop working with either a loss of power or it sticks open - I found it tends to happen on part throttle at about 50 to 60 mph. The ways I found to help this is to put a big sheet behind the grill to reduce cold air flow into the engine bay and spray the carb with WD40 before a journey and if it happens during. Still happens though but not as much, normally cold foggy weather. The other option is to put a heated manifold in
Never know it may help you a bit
