Ads on the forum
I just finished scanning my computer for mal-ware and removing 43 Trojans and 2 Viruses that I got from another FreeForum site. They came from banner ads on the forum, like the one that you're probably seeing just above this posting right now. I let the forum administrator know and he looked into it and paid a bit extra for the No-Ad version and killed the ads. I've never had any problems from this forum, but I wonder if it's just a matter of time. I guess it was a particular ad that only pops up once in a while, and I was lucky enough to be on the forum when it popped up. I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience and whether it would be worth a few bucks by the membership to get the no-ad version.

Re: Ads on the forum
That might explain why I've been getting tons of junk e-mail recently. Loads of stuff from gambling sites -I've never clicked on any of the ad links and I'm really careful about ticking all the boxes that say "don't send me junk" so I can't quite understand where it might be coming from... it's driving me mad! Has anyone else had this? If it's just me I'll have to keep investigating other possible sources!
Yes please go for the No Ads version if this could be causing it - I'll certainly pay extra!!

ElfGirl,
You might want to try downloading and running MalwareBytes from here. You can run it without paying anything and it seems to work very well. I found a ton of bad stuff on my machine and it cleaned it all off. Worth a try anyway.

Nothing about gambling, but I have options on tons of viagra ( I can do you a really good deal) and I seem to have loads of relatives that I have never heard of wanting to give me loads of money !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
seriously though they can come in from anywhere - just look a yahoo's terms and conditions for example. In addition to RedRileys program, I find this one absolutely great - finds stuff other programs don't and best of all it is free

Hope this helps a bit

Thanks Gordan and RedRiley. It's about time I did a bit of maintenance.
Now you mention it , I haven't been offered Viagra for ages. I'll let you know if I win in Vegas!

Re: Ads on the forum
The clean up was obviously long over due... no trogans or viruses fortunately - but those programes, between them, certainly found a huge number of bits of rubbish lurking on my system that I hadn't located with my existing protection.
Thanks again guys

Re: Ads on the forum
I would not advise taking Viagra.
Not only might you choke whilst taking it, you will get a stiff neck!

Thought you'd been a bit quiet discoman - obviously just picking your moment!!
P.S Bearing in mind how this thread started, we may have just made it worse for ourselves as the pop ads are often vaguely related to a couple of words in the post... well you'll never guess what, cialis just popped up!!
