Mini 51 in USA
Are any of the US Elf/Hornet owners going to this gathering in East Tennessee.

Red Riley said he couldn't make it but I know a couple other Elf's in the area could. Lets get together for a photo.

Re: Mini 51 in USA
I see the question got asked on the MM forum, I think a lot of US Elf/Hornet owners will see it there.
I did send an email to the folks who bought our brown Elf last year, they live in Tennessee so I hope they will be able to attend. They have completely redone the wee beastie, I am sure it would be greatly appreciated.
But really, its a tough tough economic time, I think a lot of folks will find it hard to travel to a car event this year. Even if it was in summer, I think attendance would be down compared to other years, and having an event like this during the school year means a lot of people won't be able to go.
This year, Laurie was able to manage a week's vacation with the boys but I am struggling with work, so no more travel this year.
I would send out more emails but I haven't been keeping an Elf/Hornet email mailing list separate from my other email addresses. I am digging through old mail to see if I can find my contacts. Yes, I need to get organized.

For anybody who cares, the "USA Contact" email address on the forum is correct, the one in the printed newsletter has been defunct for years. We asked about getting it corrected but can never seem to find the right person to make it happen.

Wow, that sounds like a blast! I might check my bank account to see if I can take that trip from California. I would trailer my car, wouldn't want to use up 2,000 miles of my engine's life each way.

We (Sue and I) will be attending. I just don't know if the recently acquired Hornet (named grUMP) will be the car we drag along. Not sure the 998 will be suitable for the mountain driving. I'm going through it in attempt to make sure it will stay operational. Already I have had to replace on displacer, fiddle with the wiper motor to get it working, changed the oil, greased all the fittings and in general cleaned it up. If it isn't deemed dependable by the time we leave, then the 67 Cooper S will be with us. See you there!

While I can understand taking the Cooper S into the mountains, I wouldn't disparage the 998 too much. The first time I drove the Dragon's Tail was with my Elf in its stock form with the 998 and I had a blast! I wish I could make it this time! The Dragon broke my car last year and it deserves a re-match.

Re: Mini 51 in USA
I just got back from a 600 mi trip in the mountains of NC and Virginia with my 998 Elf. NO problems, I did have to use third gear a few times on steep slopes but that's no problem for me. I drove one road coming down from the Parkway that had signs advised using first gear for all vehicles. I did use first gear and still had to use brakes a lot to keep control in the narrow sharp curves (Blue Ridge Parkway to Vesuvius (VA 56)). The steepest road I ever drove on.
From Ohio you won't have a problem.

Good point Jim. You do need to make certain your brakes are up to snuff before you hit those hills.

Re: Mini 51 in USA
A quick post of a couple pictures taken at the drive today. The morning started off very chilly. About 35 F and lots of frost. After a couple hours of mountain driving we stopped for lunch. About 45 Mini's and 3 Elf's were on the drive. After Lunch We got the Elf's together for a picture. (Paul didn't bring his new Hornet to the meet.) Sorry Red Riley missed it!!
I will post more pictures later and supply links.
What is the Plural? Is it Elf's or Elves... I like Elf's. (Not a herd of common cars, but a group of singularly superb individual cars.)
