Engine Number ?
Hi Stu,
From my BMC Engine Data Sheets .....
Your engine appears to fall into the series described in the Category 99H/-/H = 998cc Cooper - Last of manufacture 1969.
Hope this makes sense.

Re: engine number?
The factory microfiche don't list 249. 248 then skips to 250.
The A = automatic
The A = automatic

Re: engine number?
The Unipart fiches list it - pre-'69 standard 998cc engine, remote gearbox, alternative final drive ratio.
It's not often I'll catch Chuck being wrong, but the A in this number actually means no additional features, not an auto gearbox.

Re: engine number?
Guilty as charged. Simon dinged me on another web site's thread. I took another look at the time and blamed the January 1979 microfiche I use. They are hard to read. My reader is the wrong magnification so I have to use it in combination with a magnifying glass!
The Automatic read is my mistake. I found the fine print ("except for the 99H") this time. Not an automatic. No additional features, as posted by Alex (and Simon on the other thread).
As for the missing 249, all six pages of my fiche that deal with that range of engines are poorly made. There is one number missing and it is most likely 249; however, it could be 248 or 250. Even the magnifying glass can't solve the blur.
