Today we refitted the bonnet and boot. Its starting to look like a complete car now.
It was near impossible to get the edge of the bonnet completely flush with the front wings.

that's not unusual with these cars - panel fit is always a bit hit and miss. looking good though
Re: Not exactly a n Elf/Hornet, but close
I spray painted the master cylinders with a silver hammer finish.
They look quite good, me thinks. That is until brake fluid is spilled over it and it becomes a mess!!

The car is finally painted. Soon it will be transported to my garage.
I can't wait to have the car at my place, and start fitting all the cleaned, painted and repaired parts.

Finally the car is in my hands!!!
It was moved from the paintshop to my garage. Its up to me now to finish it.
Didn't do much today but couldn't resist trial fitting a couple of parts.
The rear lights really lift the look of the car, as does the numberplate surround.

Small things today. I trial fitted the external chromework, put the electrical loom in place and trial fitted the front lights and indicators.

I'm so glad you chose to restore this car and let that old vespa wait!
Your progress and the quality of the work is astounding.

Did a trial fit of the repaired grille. Thankfully the straightened out surround is almost a perfect fit. The actual grille need some modification so it can sit deeper.
I also took a sample of the carpet to my upholstery guy and did a trial on his sewing machine to see if it can handle the thick carpet. Its all good.

Today I received the finished side carpet pieces. The trim-man made a pretty good job. He used the old pieces as templates.
I also received the C-pillar chrome decorations from the chrome-guy. Very shiny!!

Re: Not exactly a n Elf/Hornet, but close
Big day today.
Received the stuff from my shopping trip to the UK from Last week.
Most important part, by a mile, was the rear bench. I was pretty worried it would not fit, as the wood frame was made off site and the wicker man has never been near the car so all sorts of measurements could be wrong. Thankfully it fitted like a glove. Huge sigh of relief!!!!
Another very important part was the rear bumper. I bought it unseen many months ago at Bingley Hall, and this was the first time I saw it. It needs a bit of work but its 1000 times better than the rotten one I have, and from what I understand, a very difficult part to find.
Finally I got a pair of woven baskets to go under the seat but I forgot that the wicker bench extends lower than the normal Mini seats.
Never Mind, I will use them in my other Mini, no problem.

Re: Not exactly a n Elf/Hornet, but close
I am away for a couple of weeks touring the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast, but thanks to internet, I have managed to get in contact with another beach car owner in Canada and found details about another car in the US that sold a couple of years ago.
http://www.barrett-jackso...spx?ln=996&aid=283&pop=0
That makes at least six surviving Beach Cars and counting. Three in the US, one in Canada, one in the UK and one in Greece, of all places!!!

Re: Not exactly a n Elf/Hornet, but close
I'm back.
I had a friend convert a black&white photo to colour, so I can have an idea of the finished car.
Also my quest to find a good match for the upholstery of the dash rails and the A-pillars is over. I visited 6 leather and upholstery shops today and here is what I found:
First is a very good match from a 4-storie car upholstery warehouse.
Second is a real leather sample
Third is a roll of leatherette I bought from Bingley hall (too dark)
Fourth is a piece of original fabric I found hidden in the cat
Fifth is a sample from Newton Commercial (too dark again)
I decided to go for one of the first two.
This is from the warehouse.
and the real leather
I decided to go for the leather and bought some.
