bleeding brake problem Empty bleeding brake problem

Post  RobBFG Sat Nov 20, 2010 11:30 pm

I've just been trying to fill and bleed the Elf's brakes. I can't seem to get any fluid moving from the reservoir. I started with the normal method of the hose from a brake nipple in a jar. I then tried opening the bleed nipple while the pedal was depressed, and having it closed while the pedal was released. When I disconnected the pipe from the cylinder outlet it was making a gurgling noise and no fluid was coming out while pumping the pedal.

Anyone got any ideas?

Start with bleeding the master cylinder by cracking the union on top of the master cylinder and pumping the pedal. Move down the brake system doing the same thing at the unions. You should start seeing fluid move enough to bleed the system starting with the brake furthest from the master cylinder.

I hope that makes sense, I know what I mean but often struggle getting it across Very Happy

I know what you mean Zef! Smile

I've just removed and dismantled the master cylinder and found everything in good order except the non-return valve is missing!

While it's out fit new seals. They cost about a fiver, it's not worth messing for the hassle of getting the cylinder in and out!
