Has anyone ever wired in a cigarette lighter to a Positive Earth car? If so any tips/help would be appreciated

I did one on my Positive earth MGA using a "marine type" lighter connector which was all plastic and had two electrical connections. I wired it for a negative earth plug and had no problems for two years in the Positive earth car. (Converted to Negative earth then).

Check the boat and marine dealers for lighter sockets. Most have isolated electrical connections and can be wired however you want.

No differance. Just put the "+" on the wire, and the - (ground) on the housing.

I have a cigarette lighter, with positive and negative wires coming from it. I want to mount it in the dashboard. Is then just a case of red (positive) wire to car body somewhere, and the black (negative) wire to another live feed somewhere? Or do I have to put in an in-line fuse as well???

Don't want to start any fires!

Connect the "central" wire to a cable with a "-" and the housing (or ground wire) to the chassis. Take care to use strong enough cables (mini 2-2.5 quadrat). It is allways good to have a fuse inline with the cigarette lighter (maybe a bigger one 15-20Amps).

If You are not sure, get somebody do the job for You, if You connect misconnect it, You surely risk fire or damaged wiring loom.
