London to Brighton 2010, sunday 16th may

a few of us will be meeting in the "lower road" up at the palace around 7am on sunday, then booking in and getting away around 7.45 to beat the rush before a breakfast stop at McD's in Redhill. all welcome to join us....

I'll be coming along tomorrow in my red devil. I didn't buy a ticket so I will make my way straight there, park up somewhere (maybe in a coach bay) and catch up with you along the promanade at some point.

HUMBLE RILEY ELF TOWS SUPERCHARGED 1275 MINI AND FAMILY OF FOUR TO SAFETY...

The 1970 Cooper lookalike seriously overheated and died in a spluttering, pityful mess on the A217 after the annual Mini London to Brighton run. Large amounts of steam accompanied by hissing issued forth from the radiator. The owner said "It just started going lumpy round the bend!" Oncoming traffic constantly came round the busy, blind uphill bend and the car behind was a Riley! It stepped in and effortlessly pulled the Mini, brother, sister-in-law and neice and nephew up the hill out of the treacherous traffic and into a lay-by in the middle of a flash flood.

The flood helped me find the location of my leak as I was forced into the puddles by the fast traffic and saw rainwater washing into the floorpan. Two pounds five pence lighter and a posh sponge in my hand, I was wringing out the water on the drive as I parked the car up for the night. Alex, Lisa and the kids had a much worse time than me though. His car blew the head gasket and a chunk out of the compression plate and the rain came down on cue. Over two hours it took for the RAC to get there.

I was not gonna go to this event but had a last minute change of mind. The day started with a promise of sun but it was overcast and chilly down at Brighton. I had a better day than I thought could be which began when I chanced to meet up with other members of my club and we wandered the auto jumble and had fish and chips on the sea front together.
