brooklands, surrey 28th march
Brooklands Museum Mini Day, March 28th 2010 - we'll be here with our usual club stand - meeting at the clockwise clacketts lane services at about 8-8.30am for the convoy up to brooklands. or you can meet us there. pay on the gate or advance tickets are a little cheaper from www.brooklandsmuseum.com
time will be confirmed nearer the event...and don't forget (as i did last year!) this is the morning after the clocks go forward!

I've entered it on the Calendar for you Al but not sure if I will be able to make it this year. Do those on the Stand get free entry?

'fraid not old chap - pay on the gate or in advance with brooklands - it is one of the few places where the admission fee is worth every penny!

Re: brooklands, surrey 28th march
club stand is booked and confirmed for 15 cars (and i reckon we'll actually have more than that!)
best to get there as early as possible so as not to miss out - they had to close the gates last year!
LATEST NEWS: brooklands are doing a very special show n' shine section with winner and runners -up prizes purely for "our cars" on our stand.
i didn't ask them to do this - they have offered as a thank you for us "always having a good turn out"!
brooklands just gets better and better - see you all there............................

Re: brooklands, surrey 28th march
A bit of bad news I'm afraid. My son in law has been giving the Elf engine a quick check over and informs me the big ends are starting to knock. Being heard of hearing these are too deep a sound for me to pick up so I have to take his and other well meaning peoples opinions.
The oil pressure is good 65-70 lbs on start up.15-20 on tickover after a blast of 12 miles @ 70. (which I thought very reasonable?)
This gives me concern about covering long distances until I sort something out and being in the "thick" of restoring the minivan ( I have now removed the whole floor and am preparing the shell to receive the new one).
To this end I will have to refrain from long journeys and just cover the "Local Shows" this year and wish you guys all the best in the shows you have lined up for the year.
I will be back!

Re: brooklands, surrey 28th march
i shall endeavour to remember the clocks SJ, do you want to meet at clacketts or mum's? whichever's best for you?
tony - jvg's engine is probably just as worn as yours - oil pressures are similiar and it was diagnosed over a year ago as having a "very worn bottom end" - still gonna take it to germany though - fingers crossed and a spare gallon of oil in the boot! best of luck with yours........

Thanks Al! I know these little engines are fighters. Andrew (elfservice) will verify that!

Re: brooklands, surrey 28th march
Bad news for me too... my sprayer opened the tin for the top coat to find it was the wrong shade of Yukon Grey - in fact it looked more blue than grey! So unless a miracle happens it looks like my Elf won't make it in time
So we will probably come down in Tricia's Designer - providing I can fix the clutch in time!!!!
Woeness.....

Re: brooklands, surrey 28th march
We're a right shambolic lot!!
Guy, it'll be nice to see you again.
Al, I had a message from Steve yesterday so I'll give him a call and try and hook up on the way to Clacketts. I'll call you in the week.
Jase, looking forward to seeing you and Tricia (and her mini) - will you still be on the club stand? Good luck with getting Rupe finished!
Tony, really sorry to hear you won't be there - I think we're destined never to meet in the real world.
I'm going to take Katy for a drive today and try and see how she's running - I've got my fingers crossed that my fabulous mechanic under the arches will have a bit of spare time this week.

Re: brooklands, surrey 28th march
Are there any spaces on the E&H stand as if all goes to plan and the weather isn't too bad, I may venture down in the new Elf (it arrives today), lots of "ifs" I know but it would be a decent run to see how it performs.
Tony, your Elf will run for thousands of miles with a slightly worn crank. The 998cc engines are as tough as they come and providing you don't drive it too hard, it will be fine.
Jason did you manage to organise a stand at Malvern over Easter as this is just down the road for me and I hope to visit either in the Elf (hopefully on an E&H stand) or just as a visitor.

Hi Andrew,
I didn't manage to organise a stand, but maybe we could call Andrew Greenwood and ask if he could squeeze a 2 car stand in for you and me?
Failing that you would be welcome to try and squeeze in with Mini Foresters?

Re: brooklands, surrey 28th march
Thanks for all your reassurances folks that the motor will be ok. I'm afraid Jill has now made other arrangements for me on the day.
Enjoy, and do have plenty of photos so I can see what I've missed!

Cheers Jase
See what you can do. big question, do you think yours will be ready for the show?
If the organisers can't fit a small display in the the E & H register then if you have room on the Mini Forresters I would be a pleased to join you.
Lets see what the weather is like as I'd prefer not to take the new Elf out in the wet until I have thoroughly checked it over and protected the underside. Although its probably my least favourite colour scheme (Cumberland Green and Old English White) its in remarkable condition with as far as I can see no rot anywhere, I hope I haven't spoken to soon but it hasn't had any repaint work other than a few minor spots hear and there with a touch up pen. Its not a show winner but potentially could be with the right amount of effort. I'm not really into that sort of thing but you never know. The engine is quite dirty and is leaking oil in several places, hard to believe I know, so I think it will be lifted out and stripped down and rebuilt as necessary. Longer term stuff. The head needs converting to run on unleaded so I think this will be the first job.
Hope to see you at either one or both events.
Andrew

Re: brooklands, surrey 28th march
bad luck martin, we had 11 cars on display and a good time was had by all except poor sarah who had to take her son young marc home after only about an hour as he was feeling poorly. exceptionally fine effort from jase to get his elf "rupe" there after a marathon 21 hour "putting back together" session after his recent sprayjob. and very nice of brooklands to have a special judging category for elfs and hornets for the first time which was won by steve with his heinz and second place going to peter for his immaculate green hornet. and it stayed dry all day with sunny spells - never trust the met office!
