Q: What was the 998 Elf automatic final drive ratio?

Okay, that's the question. I looked at the differential parts breakdown in the Somerford Minis catalog, and they only show two available ratios for the automatics, 2.76:1 and 3.273:1. Did the 998 Elf have the 3.273 ratio?

i'm afraid i have absolutely no idea, (sorry!) but hopefully somebody will? come on you clever peeps....

Now that I think about it, I may have some magazine road test articles, and some Elf/Hornet sales brochures, at home. I will look tonight.

Al, perhaps that is something you could look into, set up a forum section to post some original BMC Elf/Hornet literature.

According to my Haynes Manual The 998cc engines had a 3.765:1 ratio The automatics had a overall ratio of 3.76:1 ?
These figures throw a spanner in the works, so to speak!

I also put the question on the MM forum and got a quick reply from Kevin G., "998 Mini automatics had a 3.27:1 final drive. However, as automatic drop gear ratio was 1.15:1 (not 1:1) the actual overall ratio in 4th gear was 3.76:1."

So the manual and automatic overall ratios are the same.
