WANTED Bonnet Spear
OK! I collected my chrome today, and the door handles, bumpers and all the other bits came up great! However the bonnet spear has had it, pits the size of small craters!

Bonnet Spear, Hornet v Elf
Re the response and link from Red Riley, I still have some new Elf Bonnet Spears but these are slightly different to those fitted to the Hornet. The profile is different being triangular and the front edge has a more pronounced curve to follow the Elf grill.

Re: WANTED Bonnet Spear
I am not familiar with the Hornet spear and wondered if they were more robust than the Elf spears.ie,the Elf spears are so damn narrow it is difficult to replace the locating studs and most of them cannot be repaired.
It would appear to me that they are more suited to re chroming than the Elf spears has anybdy ever asked for a quote from a rechroming specialist? (assuming the threaded studs are ok?)
I am sure Paul of Willowchrome in St Helens would be happy to give a price to do this.
Worth enquiring about?

Spear
Acutally I only need one because it came back knackered from the chromers. All intact, but massive craters! Only other thing that didnt some up as good were the door handle buttons, waist trim, bumpers, handles boot lock all came up perfect!
I took my front chrome in this week!
Well still looking chaps, I may try the local blacksmiths

i had jvg's chromed a few years ago - about £25 i think - it was very pitted and, as it's mazak casting, the bloke warned me he'd not be able to get all the pitting out - it came back 100% better than before, but still with some small shallow holes - still looks good now though! rare to find a good one these days now - by the way, if you're careful you can drill out the mounting stud holes and araldite new ones in (or maybe use that chemical metal stuff you find in motor factors?
Re: WANTED Bonnet Spear
Can't quite understand why you can't get the pitting out as the chromers take it right back to bare metal, any pitting still there should be filled with a light weld and ground flush before the copper coat etc is applied. It has to be metal and not filler as the rechroming as you know is an Electroplating process. This would be very delicate job on the Elf spear but the Hornet spear being more robust (in appearance anyway?) I would have thought it stood a greater chance with them?
Paul from Willowchrome explained this is what I would have to do to the over riders should I not be able to buy new ones. He reckoned he could rechrome them for around £30-£35 each. My rear o/riders have blistered through now and BM have sent me another pair for the front on a newly rechromed bumper (£57 off the bay) just got the front indicator surrounds to sort out now.

I've got some indicator surrounds somewhere. Not too sure how good they are - can dig them out and have a look if you'd like.
