Chip in my windscreen
I proabaly know the answer to this but I'd still welcome some opinions - never short of those on here
I've just noticed a very tiny chip in my windscreen - should I try and get it repaired or bearing in mind my windscreen is fairly scratched anyway should I just bit the bullet and get a new one?- if so any recommendations for the best place to buy (of course I saw them a Brooklands, but missed that opportunity). How hard are they to fit - I'm thinking I should probably hand it over to the professionals and get a service done and a power / lighter socket installed at the same time - bang goes my plans for doing a bit of clothes shopping this week!!

Re: Chip in my windscreen
"To chip into my purse or not to chip" all depends on your self. Call in and get a professional advice from a windscreen specialist. Is the chip likely to turn into a crack? if so buy a new one and treat yourself to a new rubber surround and insert. as the old ones are probably rotten anyway and you would not get a decent seal.
You could get a quote whilst you are there .This will give you the idea to do it your self!
Thye may suggest a chip repair and possibly polish the scratches out if not too deep or you can polish them out with kit from Frost (about £22) (the chip is an expert job)
They are quite easy to fit if you have the confidence. I fitted both in my Elf on my own but then I have a tool for inserting the centre chrome strip(or rubber if you don't want the chrome.)
The tool I have has a small roller under the diamond shaped wire, this presses the insert in whilst the diamond shape opens the groove in the rubber. You can borrow this if you wish.

Re: Chip in my windscreen
Screens are not that hard to fit on Minis/Elfs/Hornets etc, unlike on a modern car where it is strictly a professional job. It is possible to chip them if you're not careful though.
Charles Pugh is one of the main glass suppliers; I'm lucky as their depot is near me, but the glass is relatively cheap - makes repair barely worthwhile.
On the other hand, you may find that repair is covered free with your insurance?

Usually there's an excess on replacement (while repair is free); on some policies that can be more than the cost of the glass on a Mini!
