My new Hornet
I am proud to announce that I have taken delivery of a 1968 Mk III Hornet in snowberry white with a Trafalgar blue roof. She went off the road in May 2008, just after passing its MOT and was SORN'd by the couple who owned her. She became too small for the school run, so had to be put into retirement. Thankfully she still has 2 months' MOT so I can get her on the road to try her out and hopefully she'll get through the next test ok, especially since she only did 1 mile after the previous test until now!
Her name is Wanda, and this name was given to her by the last owner. She may not be the most pristine Hornet on the road, but she has a character of her own and we love her!!

Re: My new Hornet
It's taken 4 months but here they are !!!!!!
Totally original, complete with rattle-can overspray (and blue hoses )!!
I would point out that I am not responsible for ANY of these additions!

Re: My new Hornet
and i reckon every old car should have some "rattle can overspray" to add to the overall ambience.
good excuse for my shoddy paint touching up anyhow

I know, the Elfs might have more wood on the dashboard, but the Hornets have a friendlier face!!

I had no intention of starting a 'debate' about Elfs v Hornets!
What is great about both cars is that because they don't lend themselves to boy-racer customisation as with standard Minis, owners tend to restore them to their original state, which sets them apart. There are also far fewer on the roads and that makes them a stand-out and attract much rubber-necking from other car owners

Without provoking the debate...
they look the same up front other than the grill.
I love both, I just happen to have an elf as it was a birthday gift from parents.
They all have character and agree boy-racers pass them over for the mini which is good for us lot who really appreciate them!
long live ADO15s!

What I meant was that with the shape at the top of the Riley grille ( a sort of \ / shape!) it looked like frowning eyebrows (??)
Anyway, in all honesty I would have either (or both if luck was with me ) as they are both the most stylish variants of all the 'other' Minis

Re: My new Hornet
Well, the good news this week is that Wanda went in for an MOT on Monday and came away with her pass certificate on Wednesday.
Considering she had been laid up for 10 months before I got her, and only done 100 miles since March, the repair bill wasn't too bad. She needed all 4 front wheel cylinders replaced, the handbrake compensators freed off and the springs on the rear brake shoes refitted correctly (not guilty, I never touched them!!) A bit of a tune up on top, and the bill came to under £200. Next 'treat' will be a Heritage certificate.
She now has her roof rack, BMC rosette & local Mini Club sticker - the only Hornet in the Club, so she is extra special. All the other members are really keen to see her out, so hopefully we will be showing her off in Selkirk on September 20, and at East Fortune airfield on 26 & 27 September at their Magnificent Machines event.
Looking not too bad at the minute

Looking good - congrats on the MOT, you'll be wanting an ELF Hornet Register sticker to finish her off nicely!
