Rust Protection Empty Rust Protection

Post  evlin64 Mon Feb 16, 2009 5:35 pm

Hi All,

I am looking to rust protect/treat the seam areas (roof mainly) and various other bits on Evlin that are rusty prior to her respray.

My plan

1. Back to bare metal
2. Finnegan’s no1 rust protector
3. Red Oxide
4. Premier

Is there a good sealant I can use for imperfection “Stopper”

Is my plan a good one, alternative ??

Thanks

PS any one carried out the dash board renervation

Check out this product: POR-15
Looks like Holden's carries it in the UK: Holden Product Page

Have a look at http://www.rust.co.uk/, loads of good products here, plus http://www.frost.co.uk/ holds a lot of the por15 products as well

No easy answer I am afraid - been trying loads of different stuff over the years with varying effects - best long term protection I reckon is to keep the car in a de-humidified garage with plenty of wax on top and liquid wax squirted in every orifice the little car possess

i used por15 on my saloon and will do the same on the elf when i start it.
but what is the best way back to bare metal?
because my elf has a far bit of surface rust in the gutter and it would be hard work grinding or sanding it away

oh back on topic por15 from www.frost.co.uk
they do it in small tins and you don't need much to cover a full mini floor

The POR Metal Ready stuff can be brushed into places with rust, then it eats away at it, I guess you could give it a final brush up with a dremmel or wire wool?

Have a shuftee at Fertan:::

http://www.fertan.co.uk/Item-Fertan%20rust%20converter.htm

I'm giving this a try (used Jenolite before). Fertan's website gives you inspiration that you may well succeed in your quest...it'll be a while until I can give my verdict though but on my little battery clamp test case, it looks good so far. If you have an anglegrinder, give the rust a "going-over" with a Zipwheel (ie "Twistknot" wheel) to get rid of most of the existing rust first - as good as if not better than a grindstone as a grindstone will shift the good metal also:
