STElf might be for sale
In the February MiniWorld Jim Jupp says he might sell his Elf. Why is it called STElf (will I feel stupid when I find out?). Anybody know how much he might want fro it, it sounds like it has a great history?

Re: STElf might be for sale
He had a for sale sign on it earlier this year at Wheels day. He wanted £3.5k.
I toyed with the idea of buying it, and swapped some e-mails, but I didn't like the rally spec interior, and thought it was too much money (the paintwork is starting to look a little tired)
I think I've got a photo of the advert somewhere if you're interested.

Thanks, that would be good to see. That price does sound a bit steep, is it fully stripped out and why is it called STElf?

Re: STElf might be for sale
Here's the pictures I took.
I think the ST represents Special Tuning, so it's a special tuning elf (STElf)
Like I say I was tempted by the car, but it wasn't original enough for me. I'm not a big fan of the dashboard mods, or the washer bottle / servo stuck in the footwells and roll cage.
That said, if you like the period rally look then this could be a good car. 10" discs and 1275 engines, etc. don't come cheap nowadays, so if you allowed a bit to sort out the bodywork you could have a nice car.
I might be able to find an e-mail address if you want to make contact.

A contact email would be great, and if you could send me bigger versions of the pics that would be fantastic too. Thank you so much.

Re: STElf might be for sale
Hi, Yep my Elf (STElf) is up for sale, as we have too many cars. The price has reduced to £3200, which some may consider high, but the car has lots of period parts from when it was tarmac rallied by the previous owner in the early 70s, and it was the previous owner that fitted a lot the items and modified the dash. The only modifications we've done are:
Rear anti-roll bar.
Tarox S brake discs (was on Cooper S discs before)
Reverse rim steel wheels and A008 tyres (it was on Mamba's, which we felt were not retro enough for the car)
Re-fitted the twin 1 1/4 SU carbs (which were once fitted when the car was rallied) - and got it rolling road tuned by ATSpeed.
Maniflow inlet manifold (flows much better then the alloy version)
Maniflow centre-exit exhaust (which it apparently had when rallying)
Front damper conversion (to stop the Hydrolastic diving)
Grp2 arches - to replace the too modern Mini Special arches
Adjustable front tie-bars
1.5 degree front neg bottom arms (to replace beefed up worn out items).
Alternator conversion (but this can be switched back to dynamo)
Roof repainted
All other work carried out has been to keep it on the road.
Other different things about the car are:
Flexible rally navigator's lamp on dashrail.
Period alloy roll hoop
Period steering wheel
Additional Cooper S fuel tank
Remote brake servo
Rally stickers in the boot from it's motorsport days.
This car isn't a concours car, it's a used and much-loved period car. I'll PM you some higher res pics.
Cheers,
Jim
