1963 : BMC planned an MG version of Elf/Hornet :

The June 2010 edition of " Mini Cooper Register " (a monthly magazine for members - now entitled " Cooper World " ) ran a 2 page
feature about what might have been entitled "A Badge Too Far". A BMC artists impression of their mooted MG Elf/Hornet car shows
a front bearing an MG style radiator but with a normal Mini rear - no fins - just like the Wolseley 1000. The article's author Jon Presnell
also reproduced a colour photo of an actual example of the MG Mini - described as an escapee now restored by MG enthusiast Richard
Howard. BMC planned a 1071cc Cooper S engine plus other Cooper refinements such as disc brakes, remote gear change & an up market
interior of two-tone Vynide seats and trim and probably the Elf full width wood dash and a wood rimmed steering wheel.

I also remember reading elsewhere about the MG Mini that BMC (wrongly in my opinion) decided that sales the MG Midget 2-seater
sports car could be damaged by a 4-seater MG Mini ! I also heard that at an auction held at one of the U.K. Motor Heritage museums
an actual example of the MG Mini originally available for auction - was only withdrawn at the last minute from the sale.

Can anyone add to this and/or correct an errors that may be contained in the above ?

yep, i have a photo from silverstone at the mini meet in 93? of the MG version. as said, the car had the elf/hornet front with full grill ( of mg version ) and the saloon body............ in two tone green as i recall. will try and find pic!

Being a newcomer to the forum I should have known that this question had probably been exhaustively answered before.
It would seem that the only piece of information that I have contributed this time is the reported name of the owner/restorer
of this rare bird (REG.NO.YSV-245) .....a certain MG enthusiast Mr.Richard Howard.

It's a fascinating bit of auto history and any additional info is welcome. I recently stumbled upon a picture of a Clubman fronted booted Mini with a badge on the front proclaiming it to be a Climax GT. I'd love to know more about that one as well. I'd like to see whether it had a proper Clubman engine bay or just the wings and bonnet stuck on.
