New Hornet Owner
Hello there!
I recently bought the red/white Hornet on ebay, with the intention of at least making it road worthy in time for the 50th, and hopefuly making it as good as new as time/money allows. I've always wanted a 'booted' Mini, in fact before I wanted a Mini. I'm in Manchester and already have a few Minis (inc a '72 clubby saloon and a mod'ed 30) but I don't know much about the different bits on the Rileys and Wolseleys so will probabaly be asking a lot of questions of you all in the next few months
We've named the Hornet 'Frankie', he's a '69 Mk3 in snowberry white with a maroon roof and a red leather interior, I have paperwork going back to 1971 too. Needs to be started for the 1st time in years, needs the drivers side pumping up and a spot of minor welding too (oh, and that all-to-popular re-chroming of the back bumper...), otherwise a bit of finishing and cosmetic work. My No.1 priority is getting her back on the road where he belongs!
ALL THE BEST
Peter

Im based in Liverpool, so not far from you. We'll have to compare notes at some point. Good luck with the resto, hopefully you'll be up and running for showtime.

Re: New Hornet Owner
Thanks for all the hellos and messages of support. I've been crawling all over Frankie today and made myself quite a shopping list and found more jobs to do...
It would be good to swap notes sometime soon Humph, there's a few bits that, despite having 3 Minis I'm not sure on.... Frankie, like your Bert, is a 69/G
Will take some photos soon just wheeling him in and out of his spot so I can get a good picture involves going back up a bit of a slope....

Re: New Hornet Owner
Hello again!
It's been about a year and a bit since I got Frankie the Hornet, other things have taken me away from getting him roadworthy, fear not though, progress has been made.
At the end of the month he should be off for his 1st MOT in 20+ years, so I have all my fingers and toes crossed. He's certainly not a concours resto Hornet, I'll be making improvements as I go, but it'll be another Hornet on the road! Hopefully we can update the 'how many left' topic and move one from the SORN list to the 'on the road list'.
I'll let you know how we get on and hopefully I will be able to post up some triumphant photos

Re: New Hornet Owner
Good news! (Though somewhat delayed... Sorry!)
Frankie the Hornet is now roadworthy, in fact made it back on the road way back in July! Didn't take much to get through the MOT, mostly just the bits I didn't have time to finish and a pump up of the hydrolastic. About a fortnight before we were due to go to the Goodwood revival the hydrolastic drooped again but after much replumbing and pumping my friend Paul at Minichanics in Stockport we were ready for the off!
Well Manchester to Goodwood is a fair old drive in any car let alone a Hornet that hasn't gone further than the MOT station in 30 years and we decided to take only A and B roads... Well after 6 hours we were approaching Reading and we get a puncture. Well we did a wheel change an F1 team would be proud of, hoping that would be the problem on the way down. It wasn't to be. the time we left reading the dynamo had pretty much chewed itself up... Well thanks to a fantastic RAC man, an amazing bunch of fellow campers and SC parts, we got a new dynamo fitted the next night at the campsite! Made it back to Manchester the Sunday night after another 8 hour drive, exhausted but happy.
Since then, the hydro has drooped again and is awaiting repair but other than that (oh and the bonnet popping open at 50mph!) its been a fun 6 months of Hornet driving!

Re: New Hornet Owner
No worries, I took me months to post the update in the 1st place
Some bad news tho. Some local scrotes tried to nick Frankie the other night. Now the locks could be jimmied with a teaspoon handle, but no, the ******s have completely bent the drivers door. Not happy. Still they would never get past the anti theft device, a particularly particular choke.
