Me and my potential new project! PLEASE READ!!!
Hi, I am 17 years old and new to this forum but I am a member of other mini forums...
but more importantly i run classic_minis page on Instagram which has over 2400+ followers on it now.
So i am a massive fan of all things mini and always have been!
But i have seen this hornet that has been sat in this guys front years for like 13 years.... and he has 2 1500's and MK6 Escort Van and MK6 Escort Cabriolet in pieces on his drive. but the hornet is in very original condition with all the chrome work, all the interior and although its rusty along sills and few rust holes up front the car looks very straight.
I have spoke to the guy and he said that if he hasn't got it into a restoration shop in a few weeks I can have it.....(FOR FREE)
but it will need new sills, new doors, new floor pans as well. But the front panel looks like it is going as well and they seem very rare.... so i was thinking if anyone has any ideas of where to get the front end sections from because somerford minis sell them but are pattern parts and expensive as not many people buy them.
Also has anyone got any styling ideas if i don't restore it fully straight away as I was thinking rat look until i can afford a proper paint job... yellow headlights, 3" rolled tip side exit exhaust like most minis, reverse deep dish steelies in white or red with a white wall tyre and use the mix of brown and rust to keep all of the rat look cool. or maybe low rider look with king fisher blue from the side walk minis with white roof.
Please give me some advice on good part suppliers that are cheap or sell GRP or Carbon Fibre parts for Hornet's
And any styling ideas would be great. don't really want stock, or sport pack, zee max body kits etc... don't suite the hornet that much.
Thanks Brandon R.
Should have a Poll on here for your feed back....not sure if it will work though.

thanks man! was looking through your build thread the other day very good work.
he said i could have it as i went round today... even though his mates offered him cash he still gave it to me for free! so bloody happy with my self to be honest.
got any ideas where a shell could be sourced from? the guy said get a mini shell and weld the rear tail fins on to the back and the front end as that basically how they were made. but it would be a pain in the arse and probably be all skew whiff anyway so just gonna have to weld the hole floor up.
thanks Brandon R.

Try to save the body if possible. Floor panels, front wings, patch panels, etc., can be sourced as Mini bits. The rear wings, doors, and bonnet will be the hardest to find, so try and use what you've got.

Thanks...........i am not using another shell. minis in way worse shapes have been restored and look factory fresh. and to be honest I'm not fussed if its not a concourse winning pin straight car. i just want to be able to drive it and know I'm not gonna put my feet through the floor.
Cheers Guys

Keep it as original as possible, disc brakes and an engine upgrade won't spoil the look and white walls do strangely suit a hornet. Apart from that wouldn't go silly, mods are great but the value of a 60's machine is in it's originality.
Good Luck

thanks, will do.
for now i am going to just make sure it is road legal and weld a new floor in. then put on some retro yellow headlamp covers. (already bought)
then reverse rims in white, with a set of nice tyres probably yokohamas A032.
then a nice stage one exahsut with 3" side exit exhaust.
then a 1275 mg engine in the future or a whole MPi engine with all the mod cons.
so will be sorted!
