RILEY ELF MK.3 COVERGIRL ON AUGUST 2012 "IRISH VINTAGE SCENE MAGAZINE" :
Yes its happened again - the subject this time is a Dublin assembled surf blue/old english white Mk.3 Elf.
From its Dublin registration I've checked against my database and it was first registered in April 1968.
Judging by the 18 plus colour photos in the magazine's feature article about this car - it has been restored to near perfection.
The restorer/current owner Bernard McCormick from Co.Meath (Ali, Coco has a new pal) was requested to tow away an old car that
had been stored in a shed in Dublin & had not been moved for the past 10 years. In order to take possession of the Elf, Bernard had to
agree to remove a beyond-resoration Morris Minor (shame!) & deposit it in a friend's dump.
The restoration carried out by Bernard is only touched on in the article. The body was so badly rotten that it required the replacing of
the entire floor plus inner & outer sills plus other panels. Engine+gearbox rebuild . Full dashboard restoration by a U.K.specialist (not named
in the article). Entire interior like-new restoration.
I sincerely hope that anyone wanting to obtain a copy of the August 2012 Irish Vintage Scene magazine will find it somewhat easier
than last time. Contact : www.irishvintagescene.ie : Tel (from U.K. ) 00353-91-388805 :

RILEY ELF MK.3 "COVERGIRL" ON AUGUST 2012 IRISH VINTAGE SCENE MAGAZINE :
Hi Ali
Glad you could get a copy. I have received an unexpected e-mail from the editor of this magazine - Tom Heavey.
He is delighted with the reaction to the feature on the Irish-assembled 1968 Elf - especially from the U.K.where the
magazine is not universally available.
It is important to point out that both the Hornet and the Elf were assembled in Dublin (Republic of Ireland) from 1961 to 1968.
Remarkably, two different Irish import agents were involved - each with their own assembly plants. The Wolseley Hornet was
assembled by Booth Poole Ltd. Dublin (who also assembled all of the M.G.range). Alec Poole - a fabulous Hornet racer in his day
and who still occasionally races his Irish-built Hornet (complete with its original April 1967 Dublin reg. SZJ-1) in U.K.historic racing,
is one of the the sons of the company's founder.
Not forgetting the Riley Elf which was also assembled in Dublin by Messrs. Brittains Ltd.
(who also assembled all of the Morris range including the Morris Cooper & Cooper S).
A third assembler (Lincoln & Nolan Ltd.Dublin) were responsible for the Austin range including the Austin Cooper & Cooper S .
